Join Johnny, Kaja, or another MadSea instructor for a four-hour Madeira surf lesson. You get beach transport, wetsuit, board, insurance, and shore-based coaching before riding beginner-friendly waves at Machico, Seixal, or Porto da Cruz.

Meet Madeira Calhau Surf School at Vila Bela in Porto da Cruz for a three-hour session with two hours in the water. Instructors including Jonathan, Rodolfo, Augusto, and Milton teach all levels in groups of up to five, with boards, wetsuits, insurance, photos, and a freshwater shower included.

Meet the Madeira Surf Center in São Vicente at 9:30 am for a two-hour lesson covering wetsuit use, warm-up, safety, paddling, wave catching, standing up, and post-surf stretching. Equipment is included, and groups are limited to six people.

Aroundfreedom Surf School takes you from a short beach briefing and warm-up into about 90 minutes of water practice on Madeira’s volcanic-sand beaches. Coaches Roberto and Francisco teach beginners and stronger surfers, with boards, wetsuits, leashes, insurance, and optional pickup included for an extra fee.

Meet the Madeira SurfCamp team at Porto da Cruz or Machico, depending on tides and sea conditions. Instructors such as Antonio and Giges teach beginners in English or Portuguese, supplying the board, wetsuit, leash, wax, insurance, and two hours of guided practice.
“Die Aktivität war okay. Leider wurde in der früh die Entscheidung getroffen, vom Strand mit Wellen zum Strand ohne Wellen zu wechseln. Als Begründung wurde die starke Strömung angeführt. Jedoch war hier der Hintergrund, dass es durch die Strömung wohl zu anstrengend gewesen wäre, den Unterricht durchzuführen. Lebensgefährdende Gründe wurden nicht angeführt. Surfen ohne Wellen macht nunmal keinen Spaß.”
Join Surf Clube da Madeira for a four-hour lesson near Porto da Cruz, with pickup at Jardim Santa Luzia in Funchal. English, Polish, Portuguese, and Spanish-speaking instructors teach beginners and intermediates in small groups, with boards and wetsuits provided.
